A World Ruled by Women
Akka is set in the 1980s in a fictional South Indian town called Pernuru. Here, a group of powerful women called the Akkas rule with an iron hand.
Their control starts to shake when an outsider arrives with plans to bring them down. What follows is a violent battle for power and survival.
Keerthy Like You’ve Never Seen Her
Akka marks Keerthy Suresh’s OTT debut, and she’s stepping completely out of her comfort zone. Known for her soft, girl-next-door roles and her National Award-winning performance in Mahanati, Keerthy plays a powerful, mass avatar here.
Dressed in sarees and heavy jewellery, she looks every bit the lady boss. Fans have been waiting to see her in a role like this.
Radhika Apte vs Keerthy Suresh
Radhika Apte, one of Netflix India’s most familiar faces from Sacred Games and Ghoul, brings her own intensity to the show. Seeing two strong performers face off is the big hook of Akka.
Veteran actress Tanvi Azmi also plays a key role.
Big Names Behind It
Akka is written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty. It’s produced by Aditya Chopra under YRF Entertainment, with Yogendra Mogre and Akshaye Widhani.
The series was first announced at Netflix India’s big event in Mumbai in February 2025, where its first look created strong buzz. More than a year and a half later, it’s finally ready to stream.
Why Telugu and Tamil Audiences Should Watch
With a South Indian setting, a Telugu and Tamil star like Keerthy in the lead, and a story rooted in local power politics, Akka has strong appeal for South audiences. The Telugu and Tamil versions streaming on the same day make it even easier to catch.
